Thank you for visiting. We are here for the dogs.
A little background on Minnie Pearl’s Liver Leavin’s. Minnie Pearl is a nine year old European Basset Hound, Red & White in color of Championship stock. She is a magnificent lady. The unfortunate part of the K9 world is that too often these spectacular creatures find themselves being cared for by demented humans. It must be a horrible situation for them. I can’t even imagine.
I have been rescuing Basset Hounds for 31 years. Everyone has their preferences. I don’t look to dogs for protection but rather companionship. I’ve been through my share of hardship and heartache in life and Basset’s are like living stuffed animals, cartoon characters. They have provided me great comfort. I have done my very best to do the same for them.
Minnie Pearl has been my greatest challenge. Unfortunately for this amazing soul she spent 6 years with the wrong people. There are many sad stories out there. This was the saddest for me at a personal level with rescues. I rescued her at gunpoint. She jumped into my car and slept the entire 6 hours in the back seat. Of course I had a blanket and pillow, a little soft toy back there.
Minnie Pearl had never seen a Vet in 6 years. She had hot spots in her fur, probably 15–20 lbs under weight and she trembled constantly. Even when we got home she avoided humans, including me. I had a Vet that insinuated she might be a lost cause. My answer to that is that a decade ago I was a lost cause, stage 4 cancer. I’m still here. I wasn’t going to give up on her. She is such a sweet girl.
We spent 2+ years socializing her, adventures and spoiling her stupid. Minnie Pearl had never been given a treat, she didn’t understand what I was trying to give her. It was heart breaking. We corrected the treat issue, the hot spot issue, the Vet exams and shots. We stopped her from being scared. She smiled and laughed and finally really enjoyed her life. She found the 20 pounds by the way.
There was one lingering issue that we really struggled with. The issue was feeding and eating her meals. For all the dog owners that struggle with this issue I feel for you. The primary health indicator in a dog is that voracious appetite at dinnertime. That’s what healthy dogs do. Therefore having your dog eat properly and consistently is a vital sign. Some are more polite, or less enthusiastic but they eat at mealtime.
Our time reference is 7 to 1, meaning by most accounts a dog’s life is 7 years to our 1 year. If that is true does that mean if my dog does not eat today that would be like not eating for a WEEK?? That could actually be true, Google indicates that if your dog does not eat for 2 days… it’s time to take the dog to the Vet. I can’t speak for everyone, but for me that’s a very short time frame to ignore a lack of eating meals.
I love my dogs. We spend a tremendous amount of time together. They mean the world to me. So, when Minnie Pearl would not eat regularly or consistently at all it became very stressful and concerning for me. I found a human-grade wet food that Minnie Pearl would eat. I am not sure exactly what happened with her but she was terrified of the bowl. I hand fed her the wet food twice a day for 2.5 years. She would eat the food out of my hand so I fed it a scoop at a time from my hand twice a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Even doing that there were meals she just didn’t want to eat. It was difficult. I was committed to doing this for the rest of her life if necessary.
I tried toppers and bone broth. I tried every brand of food. I added egg, roast beef, steak. You name it. I figured she and I would just work our way through. I was starting to think about a second Basset, a friend for her. Life changes sometimes on a dime.
Almost a year ago I was reunited with an old friend. We worked together as partners for a few years. Made a lot of money. Had a lot of fun. We were both married to other people so when the work situation changed we drifted apart. We were never romantically involved although we both had considerations. We both wound up divorced and we hadn’t spoken in 25 years. She called. I was happy to hear from her.
To make a long story short I sold my house, Minnie and I moved to Florida with her and her two English Labradors, Daisy & Duke. We were married in February and hope to spend the rest of our lives together. The dogs have done incredible together. Minnie Pearl loves Duke, tall dark and handsome and Daisy is her best girlfriend. Anyone who knows Labradors knows they eat passionately.
The key to Minnie Pearl’s transitioning to eating meals consistently out of a bowl has been Minnie Pearl’s Liver Leavin’s.
Monica and I started making homemade treats as these 3 are 250 pounds of combined dog and they can eat some treats. In the process we created Minnie Pearl’s Liver Leavin’s. It is a single ingredient very high quality protein that is outstanding for K9’s. It is applied with a shaker bottle. It’s neat, it’s clean, easy to dispense and it does NOT disturb their current meal. In extensive testing it has proven to get the most difficult eaters eating.
After an injury and NO desire to eat, Duke used Minnie Pearl’s Liver Leavin’s to find his appetite again. All of the research says that better than half the 70 million dog owners in this country have problem eating dogs. We can help you and your dog. We understand how stressful it can be.

This is more important than ever to me now. I have owned dogs for 45 years and I want to share with others and help their dogs.
On that 6 hour ride home with Minnie Pearl it was upsetting to really start to understand what this poor sweet soul had been forced to suffer. I swore in the car that day that I was going to change her life and see her happy.
It has been so rewarding to see the transformation. I want her to be a light in the darkness. I hope to immortalize her and make her famous.
Minnie Pearl wants reach out to her four legged friends who struggle with eating meals and offer a simple solution.
